In Praise of Bonaparta

Illyriad needs more players like Bonaparta. I first came across her (the character’s female, so I’ll assume the player is too) in Global Chat a while ago. She was looking for an alliance, so I pointed her towards Black Skull Horde, and thought nothing more of it.

Since then, I’ve encoutered her in two mini-tourneys. She was actively involved, and played intelligently, in a Frost v BSHx tourney. With quick thinking and daring she captured one of the first books in the current Christmas Challenge, doing better than players ten times her size.

Messages from her are well written, entertaining, often semi-in-character (one included an invitation to a feast, and detailed highlights of the menu on offer).

She’s quick to apologize if something goes wrong or if she causes offense. I’ve seen her in Global Chat being friendly and helpful to new players, but I doubt that she has ever threatened or been rude to anyone.

And this is not some 100,000 population “veteran” player. This is a normal, ~7,000 population (at time of writing) player. Nobody is going to be on GC or in the Forums sucking up to her. She doesn’t have the epic “community” stature of a player like Rill. But the way she acts – eager to be involved, to make the game more entertaining for others, fun to communicate with – makes her, on the quiet, an excellent role-model.

No doubt there are other players who I happen not to have met who are just as excellent. But also undoubtedly, that Illyriad would be an even better place to play if there were more players like this.

About Kurdruk

Kurdruk is a fictitious character. Specifically, he is a fictitious Orc. Orcs are, of course, a fictitious race. And so, being a fictitious member of a fictitious race, it is unsurprising that Kurdruk lives in a fictitious land - Illyria. So it is no surprise that Kurdruk's great wisdom relates to life in the realm of Illyria - in other words, in Illyriad.
